The worst part of the pad, and this is by a pretty long shot, is the D-pad. Complicated directional inputs, particularly the "Z" motion (dragon uppercut) and half circle inputs, don’t seem to come out all the time. This is crucial in tight spots. For example, in MVC3 , after using a hard knockdown attack in the air with Viper, you must quickly land near your opponent and input HCB+AA to use her super which will carry her opponent off the ground and set them up for further devastation. I regularly use this combo with both a standard 360 controller and a standard PS3 controller. All things considered, the WWE Brawl Pad is priced to sell and it does have a nice list of features . However, the D-pad doesn’t seem to be too effective or responsive and this is a must for fighting games. If you really love the Rock or need an affordable new pad, I’d recommend this. Anyone picking up Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl _ will know what they're getting into from the jump. The 8-bit action will have a hard time attracting newcomers to this style of game, but it does successfully capture both the spirit of classics like _Double Dragon and the vibe of Kevin Smith's modern output. Yesterday, it was announced that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is due to launch this fall . While the reveal trailer featured a variety of iconic characters like SpongeBob SquarePants from... Well, SpongeBob SquarePants, Michaelangelo and Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Nigel Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys, one particular Nickelodeon series was weirdly absent: Avatar .


As far as gameplay goes, both slackers have just a jump and a pair of attacks, letting players perform a dropkick and grab foes when combining the two. It's a simplistic control scheme that gets the job done without much flair, and the lack of something like a life-draining super move is surprising. Then again, it might not need that extra level of strategy thanks to its accessibility. The game is definitely easier than many of its 8-bit contemporaries, offering a true challenge only after the first playthrough wraps up. The rubbery grips on the side of the pad do indeed help it stay firmly seated within your palms, even when they are sweating bullets. The shoulder buttons feel a little too…flat. They don’t extend far enough from the controller for me to accurately tell if I’ve completely pushed them, but a nice clicking sound alleviates this as an issue. Korra’s braids are usually pretty thin, but if you watch an action sequence from the show you’ll see that her hair thickens in combat. Meanwhile, Aang’s bald head and distinctive ears separate his silhouette from those of pretty much every other Nickelodeon character ever created. As protagonists of some of Nick’s biggest shows, they’re natural shoo-ins for a game - especially a fighting game. Still, it’s refreshing to see some confirmation that we’ve got at least one Avatar stage and two Avatar characters. If they weren’t in All-Star Brawl, there’s no way in hell I’d have considered playing it. Now, though… Well, I might start playing Smash again so I can become an esports pro as a Korra main.


The inclusion of microtransactions wouldn't be that big a deal if there was more content available in Brawl Chess, but there really isn't. With only the two modes to play in, things can get dull fast. While it certainly isn't expected for a game to completely reinvent the game of chess , there could have been different scenarios or challenge modes useful for players wanting to improve their skills. In its current state Brawl Chess is just chess. There is nothing wrong with simplicity, but without additional features or game modes on top of a standard game of chess, Brawl Chess does feel a little bland. Brawl Chess does a great job of redefining the way chess is supposed to look. Each of the chess pieces have been completely redesigned in order to represent cartoonish soldiers facing each other down on the battlefield.
