Fans of the original NieR have always felt that the game was unfairly overlooked, and that 2010’s action RPG is one of the hidden gems of the last console generation. When another game in the franchise in the form of NieR: Automata was revealed at E3 2015, many were excited about what the title would bring when it saw release. Now, publisher Square Enix and developer Platinum Games have perhaps revealed what the sequel may have in store, through videos released in the wake of a new NieR event that took place on April

NieR: Automata is certainly gathering a lot of attention lately thanks to the great gameplay showcased by the recently-released demo , but there is another element that turned many heads, the rather prominent behind of android protagonist YoRHa 2B, which is often generously displayed by her physics-enabled sk

On the other hand, Square Enix mentioned better lighting and shadows definition for PS4 Pro, but from what we can see in the comparison screenshots above, and playing the demo, those improvements might not yet be implemented in the demo. That's quite understandable, considering that we're still about two months from release.


NieR: Automata was revealed by Square Enix back at E3 2015 , alongside the announcement that Bayonetta developer Platinum Games would be tasked with delivering some oomph to the game. The images captured on PS4 show some very visible jaggies basically across the whole picture, while the PS4 Pro version is much smoother. This appears to indicate a superior anti-aliasing solution on top of the difference in resolution. To help you see the difference (even if I doubt that this is really needed) you can check out a zoomed area on both platforms below, with massive jaggies on standard PS4 and much smoother edges on PS4 Pro.

The difference appears to be less visible during cutscenes, where developers probably managed to squeeze a little more juice out of the standard PS4 due to the controlled rendering environment, bur it's still quite noticeable in elements like YoRHa 2B's hair.
